hmm,
Question
Didn't Calneva send out letters stating they would start to charge on overages or is that my imagination?
If they did, existing customers know and knew.
It's the new customers that signed up in the last few months that will have no clue and needs to be informed.
Tom, please inform that customer that wrote into the paper about your bandwidth limits. Others who read that will probably think it's true.
And please, please put your policy somewhere on your site where it can be found easily, along with your plans and cost.
Who ever designed your webpage didn't think it through as far as adding useful information. |

Youtube will suck up your bandwidth in a heartbeat.
Possibly a webcam too but I used to use that years ago on dial up with out an issue, so I can't see that being much of a problem.
If you only have one computer in the home, download Bitmeter.
You can find it here. http://download.cnet.com/BitMeter-2/3000-2381_4-10398686.html
That will keep track of exactly what you are using when you "tube" it or use other applications.
If you have more then one computer, you will need to install this on both.
Add them together to find your total usage per day/week/two weeks/mo.
It will even tell you when you are about to go over your bandwidth allowance once you input the information in.
It's accurate enough for me when I compare it to what Calneva is telling me...so far.
I prefer to have my own way of keeping track.
I've had Calneva's site tell me I used upload bandwidth when no download was registered which is impossible and they quickly removed from my usage when I called and pointed that out.
Anyway, give that a try.
At least you'll know what programs you are using that is sucking up your bandwidth. |
Gale, thank you for the info and the link. I'm not sure if I'll download it this week or wait until the 1st. But I will definitely download it. |

You are so welcome
Calneva was just here.
They are routing me to a new server?
Not sure exactly what they are doing
I didn't call.
I didn't expect them.
They'll be back again tomorrow.
And now...they know where I live

Yes CalNeva is a joke, since April I have been keeping a spread sheet of dates, & times that I have been on line and believe me I have been off more than on. the excuses I get are, 1. I will let the tech know and they will call back or 2. I am just the answering service. I have been told about ther bandwith, I thought this was unlimited internet access (lol) I almost lost my job because of this (Joke internert service).. _________________ Teri~ |

BRAVO Mountain Enterprise for telling it like it is!
They didn't print Pio's letter that he posted above, but did print a similar letter from Carl Reese. And they made clear the truth about CalNeva's bandwith limits on its internet "service."
They also printed some quotes from this thread... along with the following interesting editorial comment:
| Quote: | | The newspaper tried to contact the owner of CalNeva. We received an email automatic reply saying he is on vacation. Then we called the service number and listened to some very good jazz for two minutes and then talked with an answering service. |
Now, ain't THAT the truth!!! |

Teris44,
It sounds like you are calling their Main Office at night.
Main office closes at 4 or 5pm
You need to call tech support after hours: 1-866-821-8280
They are not much help.
Pull the power to the modem for 10 seconds, unplug the router for the same.
I just did their job.
I wanna be paid.

On my way now to get the paper.
Calneva just called me.
Expect a tech to show up to ground the wiring.
Seems appliances are also a factor in the SNR (signal to noise ratio) in the home.
After talking to Tom, oO(or was it the tech Gerard?),
I have a lot more confidence that they are out there and getting down to the nitty gritty on problems here.
He's well aware of the issues the past few nights so I won't need to go into that.
All we can do is wait but he was straight forward with me.
Going to get the paper now before it's gone. |

I'm not even sure how to respond to that.
It does sound like (thinking)...what do they call it on eBay?
A company cheerleader hiding their poms.
The only thing that makes me feel this is not, is the fact they mentioned "no bandwidth limits" which could be potentially harmful to Calneva, who is now monitoring bandwidth, and as of last month, charges for it.
Hope that guy gets informed really quick.
At $10 bucks a G, that can add up quickly and he'd feel like a fool after blabbing that out publicly.
Surprised the paper published it with out checking into it first.
hahaha,
I'm surprised the paper published that too.
I'm sure eBay will also love the attention. |

I have been looking for ways to get compensation or some sort of positive results from Cal Neva, by filing complaints with the FCC, the FTC, and to Cal Neva themselves for several months now. But to no avail. At this point I have yet to find a way to get these scumbags (Cal Neva) to honor a contrct where in they provide service for a fee. I seem to pay the fee month in and month out. I just did'nt expect to get shitty service month in and month out. There is one thing that Cal Neva has been this far. Consistantly bad. Does anyone have any suggestions as to how we can force Cal Neva to rectify this problem that we all seem to share. (They take our money, and give us nothing). At this point I am game for anything. ex; law suit, picketing, prank calls, anything please.
Perhaps if we all started writing "letters to the editor" of The Mountain Enterprise, they might respond due to the bad publicity. something, anything, please. |

To get "some" compensation, you need to call the main office.
Response to post above.
Well, Calneva is showing signs of going back to the type of service this thread started on.
Download speed as of this posting .17
It's already gone down a while again and like last night, I suspect it will do it again shorty.
Last night, about...1 hour 1 1/2 hours. Pretty late/early 1am on.
Will it start doing it's regular routine of going down at night on a regular basis, earlier and earlier every night and not come back up until 7 ot 9am?
I'm starting to suspect it might. |

Rmanso: One thing that they've been pretty good about is adjusting my bill so I at least get SOME credit... though even today I ended up paying the full 70.00 for this month (and low and behold, the service the last few days, and especially tonight) has been less than decent... I've had more downloads interrupted tonight than I have in the last 2 weeks. it just keeps going up and down and up and down again... for the last couple weeks it's been FAIRLY stable, and I was hoping that maybe some headway was being made towards a totally stable ISP... however, after the last couple days, and again, especially tonight... it just seems like more of the same. I've now even had to abandon most of my internet clients, because there is no way that I can send them the files that I'm working on for them (audio/visual stuff)... so I might even have to get into a new line of work, since I can't complete the projects that I work on. Although it's getting a little late in life for a change in vocations, due to an internet issue.
I have spoken with Gerard a few times, and he really does seem to be trying his best, he's up against a problem from hell it sounds like... from talking to other employees in the past, the real problem isn't going to be fixed until they replace a lot of OTHER things, which are very VERY expensive...so I don't see them replacing things in the near future unfortunately. _________________ 0 |

Unfortunately I have requested credits from thier main office on two different occasions. I never recieved a response. So I made a follow up call to them this afternoon. Baisically was told my request was being processed, or something to that effect. In other words, same bull sh** as always. They are truly on of the worse companies I have ever had the mis fortune to have to deal with. If I don't see some sort of improvement very soon, I will have no choice but to get satellite internet at a much greater cost to me.
We all need to figure out a way to get this vile company to provide the service which they charge us for. |
