Pool Pump Rebates

Tuesday, April 21st, 2009

Things are warming up in the Santa Clarita Valley and so are we are all looking for ways to cool down and save money.  Well, Carl Reese Construction has another great way to put money back in your pocket!  Right now Southern California Edision is offering a $200 rebate if you purchase and install a qualifing Two-speed pool pump or Variable-speed pool pump before December 31, 2009.  Why is this something you should be interested in?  Upgrading your single speed pump to a slower variable speed pump is good idea because it takes alot less energy to move the water in a pool slowly then it does to move that same water faster. So replacing your older pump with a more efficient variable speed is a great way to save energy  and money. A great example from Edison is

• A single-speed motor takes 6 hours to cycle at an average cost of about $870 per year.
• A variable-speed motor takes 12 hours at an average cost of about $436 per year.
And as if saving over $400 annually on energy bills isn’t reason enough to upgrade your pool pump, the new pumps and motors run more quietly and last much longer than single-speed models.  AND your pool water will be much cleaner and healthier with daily filtration. Making this simple upgrade is a great way to save energy and now is the time to do it so you can get your $200 rebate back.   Click here http://www.sce.com/NR/rdonlyres/1B87D698-3B01-4BCE-A760-E2E2EDA1815A/0/081126_PoolPumpQPL.pdf to see the list of qualifing pumps.  After installation, simply fill out the rebate form and turn it according to the guidelines from Southern California Edision (http://www.sce.com/residential/rebates-savings/pool/pool-pump-motor.htm) .  So call Carl Reese Construction today at 661-877-1499 to have you new pump installed. But hurry, the funds are limited and with such a great way to save energy and money, this rebate may not last long!

Stimulus Provides Over $30 Billion for Green Energy

Wednesday, February 25th, 2009
On February 17, 2009, President Barack Obama signed the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act

President Barack Obama signed the $787 billion stimulus package last Tuesday, and with over $30 billion devoted to green energy measures, the act serves as a critical step in making energy efficiency the nation’s top priority.

“Energy efficiency is a winner for the nation on so many levels,” commented Brad Penney with the Alliance to Save Energy. “The stimulus law’s $20-plus billion for energy efficiency projects will put Americans to work making buildings more efficient; cut energy bills for consumers, businesses, and governments; and significantly reduce greenhouse gas emissions.”

Together with provisions for renewable energy and clean transportation, energy efficiency allocations promise to help put the nation back on track.
Provisions include:

  • $6.3 billion for energy efficiency and conservation grants.
  • $5 billion for the Weatherization Assistance Program to upgrade modest-income homes. The act will also increase the eligible income level under the program and increase funding assistance to $6,500 per home, including homes weatherized as recently as 1994.
  • $4.5 billion for the repair of federal buildings to increase energy efficiency using green technology
  • $6 billion for new loan guarantees aimed at standard renewable projects such as wind or solar projects and for electricity transmission projects.
  • $11 billion for smart-grid related activities, including work to modernize the electric grid and smart grid grants.
  • $1 billion for energy efficiency programs including smart and energy efficient appliances, alternative fuel trucks and buses, and transportation charging infrastructure.
  • $4 billion to the public housing capital fund to enable local public housing agencies to address a $32 billion backlog in capital needs, especially those improving energy efficiency.
  • $500 million to help workers train for green jobs.
  • Tax incentives: About $20 billion for renewable energy and energy efficiency over 10 years including extended tax credits for wind and other renewable energy sources. The solar provisions in the bill are expected to help create 60,000 jobs in the solar industry in 2009 alone and a total of 110,000 jobs in the next two years.

Much of the stimulus will be channeled through the DOE Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy (EERE), resulting in a nearly tenfold increase in EERE funding from 2008. Californians have already experienced some of the benefits of energy efficiency and clean energy measures, including increased dollar savings at home and burgeoning job opportunities in local communities. The new stimulus acts as an affirmation of this success and reminds us that we must continue to do more.

Energy Audit….not a bad thing.

Best ways for Santa Clarita Home Owners to save Energy?  CR Construction is an Proud EnergyStar partner that offers Energy Audits on Commercial and Residential property Owners.  Lets face it .. we all dread giving money to the utility companies.  With some quick  and inexpensive fixes around the house you can invest in your future, and pay less in monthly utilities.

How do I recover hundreds or even thousands of lost energy dollars without spending a fortune?

Home Energy Savings starts with a Thermal Home Energy Survey (audit).  This inexpensive scan pays dividends in monthly savings once you locate the leaks in your homes energy envelope.  Your home energy report will come complete with digital photographs, information specific to your home, and numerous low cost ways you can improve your monthly savings.  Rebates and Grant sources are provided as well.   The report will prioritize your energy savings that will pay you back in the shortest amount of time.

Carl Reese Construction uses a hi-tech thermal imaging camera to locate:  Loose duct work, missing or compromised insulation, electrical issues, costly home energy drafts, hidden water leaks or mold sources.   We have over 17 years experience, Proud EnergyStar Partner, and continued education includes Certifications at SoCal Edison © CTAC School on Energy Efficiency, Rebates, Lighting, and Title 24 Duct Leak Testing.  As well as Certified NACHI Home Inspector, Certified IAC2 Air Quality and Mold Testing.  Start Saving Immediately!  Often times these items can be corrected by the home owner and $9.00 worth of foil tape.   The US Dept of Energy says “every home including new construction should be thermally scanned.”   Thermal Imaging sees what the naked eye cannot see.   Infrared scanning sees temperature not light, so even the smallest duct leak can be detected with a Certified Individual operating the themal imager.  Leaking Ducts Waste Money!!  Unseen leaking ducts can cost you hundereds of dollars worth of lost energy each year.  Simple duct fixes can bring that 20 to 35 % loss back into your pocket.  If you have a $400. electric bill in the summer, that means $80.00 could be lost in attics or crawl spaces every month, as that conditoned air leaks into uncondition spaces of the home.  These corrections are simple and not to difficult to repair.  In my opinion,  CFL’s and Duct leak sealing are the two greatest increases in substancial energy saving you’ll see.   Now some would say insulation, but remember we are talking low cost , and quick returns.   Insulation I would rank 3rd or 4th.  Depending on the amount of airleaks in the home.

Cut your Electric Bills, Santa Clarita residents…order a Home Energy Survey Report of your Home.  We are the number one choice for Home Inspections, Home Energy Audits and Handman Services in the Santa Clarita Valley.   Call 661-877-1499 to book your Home Energy Audit Report, or Home Inspection Today!

Home Energy Savings … CFL’s

Tuesday, December 2nd, 2008

Most of my Santa Clarita Valley clients are looking of ways to save money on their electric bills.  One simple and best way is to upgrade to Compact Florescent Bulbs or CFL’s.

EnergyStar Packaged CFL

EnergyStar Packaged CFL

I know you think they flicker and they are harsh cold light…not so..  These newer 3rd generation lights are warm and inviting light that start quicker than those bulbs made in the 80’s.    You need to look for 2700 K on the bulb or box this is the bulbs Kalvin rating.  This rating is the bulbs color rating,  the lower the number the warmer the light.  Example:  Regular Bulbs (energy hogs) have a rating around 2500K  (warm white),   Office Fluorescents run around 3500-4000K (cool and bright).   High Kelvin bulbs are fine for the garage or laundry room.   In a living room or bedroom you want to search out a bulb that has a 2700 to 2750K rating.  This will replace that warm light your use to.    Lets talk about lowering your energy bills for Santa Clarita.  Everyone wants to save money and Lighting makes up 37% of your electric bill.   CFL use 1/4th of the electric it take to power the old style bulbs.   CFL’s create less heat than a old style bulb.  Don’t wait until the old style bulb burns out.  CFL’s will pay for themselves in six Months of energy Savings, and every six months you’ll receive 100% return on your investment.

CFL's Now Come in a wide variety that look just like regular bulbs.

CFL

CFL’s now come in recessed configuration, so they look just like the old energy wasting type.   CFL’s now come in dimmable and 3 way types as well.   Don’t wait, some homes will see a $100 to $200 dollar savings each year.

The mercury in CFL’s is very small, actuall it would take sever bulbs worth to cover the tip of a ball point pen.  So when it goes bad, please recycle these bulbs.  The except them at the annual round up that Santa Clarita Hosts each year.

One last point….if your going to leave a room for more than 19 minutes , Edison says turn that CFL off, but if your coming back in in say 5 to 10 minutes leave the CFL on.    This is the break even point for the energy it takes to start the bulb.  Look for the ENERGYSTAR logo on the bulb.  We are an Proud ENERGYSTAR Partner.  Bulbs with the EnergyStar logo will save you more money than those without.

To purchase CFL’s check out our online store at http://astore.amazon.com/carlreescons-20?%5Fencoding=UTF8&node=6
